PSAJK directs member schools to cap fee hike at 10% till FFC gets new chairman

In response to complaints from parents about arbitrary fee hikes, the Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) has directed all its member schools to limit any fee hike to a maximum of 10%. The association’s spokesperson stated that the decision was made due to the non-functioning of the Fee Fixation Committee (FFC), which has been without a chairman for the last three months.

The association stated that it had received reports of some schools increasing fees by a significant amount, which was causing problems for students and parents. The association has decided to intervene with a short-term measure until the FFC begins functioning properly. “No school can increase the fee by more than 10 percent as of now. We are trying to maintain a balance,” the statement said.

The association emphasized that schools were under financial stress due to inflation and the absence of clear directives from the government, but it had to consider the situation of parents as well. “We have to take into consideration the parents too. So as a middle path we have capped the hike at 10% till the formal orders from the FFC,” the statement added.

The spokesperson for the PSAJK said that the academic calendar was experiencing a significant shift this year and the government was displaying inefficiency by ignoring the FFC. The spokesperson called for the government to appoint a new chairman to the FFC so that it could begin functioning properly.

In conclusion, the PSAJK has taken a step to address the complaints of parents regarding arbitrary fee hikes by directing member schools to limit any fee hike to a maximum of 10%. The association has highlighted the financial stress that schools are facing due to inflation and the absence of clear directives from the government. However, the association has also emphasized the need to consider the situation of parents, and has called on the government to appoint a new chairman to the FFC.
