In an unprecedented achievement for Jammu and Kashmir cricket, a record 15 players from the region have been shortlisted for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. The auction is set to take place on November 24-25, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone in the history of J&K cricket.
Among the notable names, senior team star batter Shubham Khajuria, rising top-order batsman Musaif Ajaz, and talented left-arm seamer Mujtaba Yousuf have been selected. These players have been instrumental in showcasing the cricketing talent emerging from Jammu and Kashmir.
The auction list also includes Abdul Samad, a proven performer in previous IPL seasons, and other promising players such as Atif Bin Mushtaq, Avinash Singh, Nasir Lone, Vivrant Sharma, Abid Mushtaq, Kunal Chib, Umran Malik, Murgan Ashwin, Yudhveer Singh Charak, Rasikh Salam, and Aquib Nabi.
Out-of-favor Indian pacer Umran Malik has registered a base price of INR 75 lakh for the upcoming IPL auction, making him the 180th player on the list, behind fellow J&K cricketers Abdul Samad and Rasikh Salam. Malik, who debuted in the IPL in 2021 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has featured in 26 matches, taking 29 wickets and scoring 23 runs.
Abdul Samad, who made his IPL debut in 2020 for SRH, has amassed 577 runs in 50 matches as a middle-order batter. Rasikh Salam, the third player from Jammu and Kashmir to play in the IPL, debuted in 2019 for Mumbai Indians (MI) and later represented Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC).
