After a two-day meeting of top leaders from 26 opposition parties, an alliance has been formed to contest against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Named the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, or ‘INDIA,’ the coalition aims to present a united front and advocate for the principles of progress, welfare, and true democracy.
The meeting, held in Bengaluru, witnessed the convergence of prominent opposition leaders who deliberated on a strategic approach to counter the BJP in the upcoming polls. Congress party president, Mallikarjun Kharge, who presided over the meeting, announced the formation of the alliance and highlighted the significance behind the name ‘INDIA,’ which stands for ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance.’
Kharge emphasized the deeper meaning behind the alliance’s name, stating, “We are calling it ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance – INDIA.’ There is a deep meaning in this.” The opposition leaders expressed their determination to fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections collectively and achieve success.
Taking to social media, Kharge further expressed his satisfaction with the presence of 26 parties in Bengaluru, highlighting that together they are currently in government in 11 states. He underscored that the intention of the meeting was not merely to gain power but to safeguard democracy, secularism, and social justice. Kharge also pointed out the opposition’s concerns over the BJP’s efforts to consolidate power and manipulate institutions for their advantage.
West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, echoed the sentiment of the alliance’s strength, challenging the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) by stating, “I want to ask BJP and NDA, can they challenge INDIA? INDIA will win, our country will win, and BJP will lose.”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the name ‘INDIA’ symbolizes the opposition’s determination to defend the idea of India, which he believes is being threatened by the BJP’s ideology. He criticized the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few businessmen and asserted that the opposition’s fight is against an ideology that is endangering the nation, rather than a mere BJP versus opposition clash.
The newly formed alliance announced the creation of a coordination committee comprising 11 members to facilitate the smooth functioning and coordination of the opposition parties. The committee will work towards formulating a comprehensive strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The next meeting of the opposition alliance is scheduled to be held in Mumbai, where further discussions and planning are expected to take place. The coalition aims to capitalize on the unity displayed during the Bengaluru meeting to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling BJP in the upcoming elections.
As the political landscape takes shape, the formation of the ‘INDIA’ alliance signifies a significant development in Indian politics, with opposition parties joining forces to offer an alternative vision for the nation’s progress, inclusivity, and democratic values.
