In a major breakthrough, the Doda Police has intercepted a significant quantity of illicit timber during a special operation conducted in the forest area of Marmat Doda. This successful raid not only led to the confiscation of the illegally obtained timber but also resulted in the apprehension of one timber smuggler, with another still evading capture.
Acting on credible information received from reliable sources, a dedicated team from the Police Post Goha, headed by PSI Ankush Sharma, took swift action and seized the illegally extracted timber in Forest Compartment No. 34 of Forest Range Marmat. The timber was obtained through the unlawful felling of green standing trees in the forest area by timber smugglers. One of the prime culprits, identified as Hidayatullah, son of Mohd Ramzan and resident of Behota Marmat, was arrested on the spot.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to locate and apprehend Tanveer Ahmed, an associate of Hidayatullah and son of Farooq Ahmed, also from Behota Marmat, who is currently on the run. The police have registered a case, FIR No. 114/2023, under the relevant sections of the law at PS Doda, initiating a thorough investigation into the matter.
In light of this significant seizure, the Doda Police has urged the general public to remain vigilant and report any instances of damage to the invaluable green gold in their respective areas. A special drive has been launched at the Police Station level, targeting timber smugglers operating in Dessa, Marmat, Thathri, Gandoh, Bhaderwah, Chiralla, Gundna, and Bharath regions, with the aim of preserving and safeguarding our precious forest resources.
