Suspected militants shot at and critically injured a Sarpanch at Akhran area of Qazigund in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district late this evening, officials said Tuesday.
They said that suspected militants fired at Arif Ahmed Shah son of Mushtaq Ahmed near his home.
“He sustained bullet wounds in his neck and abdomen. He was shifted to Government Medical College Anantnag where his condition is stated as very critical,” a doctor told news agency agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Sources said that Arif was affiliated with the BJP.
The attack came at a time when security forces are maintaining a highest level of alert in the wake of first anniversary of Article 370 roll back bifurcation of erstwhile state into two UTs—J&K and Ladakh.
